The Fedora Project, a Red Hat, Inc.-sponsored and community-supported open source collaboration, recently announced the availability of Fedora 12, the latest version of its free open source operating system distribution. Fedora 12 includes new features to appeal to desktop users, administrators, developers and open source enthusiasts alike.

As reported in the last edition of The Linux Executive Report, IBM's supercomputer lines are among the "greenest" in the industry. Another "super computer," System z, is also reported to lead the industry in energy efficiency. IBM has announced, for example, that it has completed installation of what it calls the "world's greenest data center" at Syracuse University.

In a recent interview with CNET's Matt Asay, Jim Zemlin, executive director of The Linux Foundation, discusses what is positioning Linux for growth in the coming decade, what affect industry consolidation may have on open source development, and what he sees looming ahead for Linux and open source in 2010.
