SAP AG and Ariba, Inc. announced that SAP's subsidiary, SAP America, Inc., has entered into an agreement to acquire Ariba, a cloud-based business commerce network, for $45 per share, representing an enterprise value of approximately $4.3 billion. The acquisition is intended to combine Ariba's buyer-seller collaboration network with SAP's customer base and business process expertise to create new models for business-to-business collaboration in the cloud. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of calendar year 2012, subject to Ariba stockholder approval, clearances by relevant regulatory authorities and other customary closing conditions.
SAP has announced that the PowerBuilder Developers Conference will be held October 15-19, 2012, at the Venetian Resort Hotel in Las Vegas, concurrently with SAP TechEd Las Vegas 2012. The conference will be comprised of an opening keynote at SAP TechEd, followed by a PowerBuilder general session and PowerBuilder technical breakout sessions.
SAP marked the 1-year anniversary of the SAP HANA platform becoming generally available. To celebrate the occasion, SAP AG announced the launch of the SAP HANA Distinguished Engineer program. The new program is focused on promoting SAP HANA expertise in the market and is intended to support a new group of community-driven, hands-on HANA technical professionals.
As part of its continued focus on working with startup companies, SAP AG is holding its second SAP Startup Forum. A gathering of select startups, the forum is a full day of collaboration, learning and competition around mobile technologies leveraging the SAP HANA platform to tackle "big data" challenges. This event follows the SAPPHIRE NOW conference where several startups took center stage in Orlando. The next SAP Startup Forum will be held at SAP Labs in Waterloo, Canada, on July 11, 2012.
Sybase Inc. has introduced the "CEP (Complex Event Processing) For Dummies" reference book to explore the inner workings of CEP and provides a how-to guide to handling big data - structured and unstructured data that come from everywhere including smartphones, networks, sensors, tweets, emails, and stock trades.

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm getting my suitcases dusted off already as Sybase and SAP are already starting to talk to me about SAP TechEd Madrid from November 13-16 and SAPPHIRE NOW Madrid November 13-15. Although, it's going to be a busy "fall/autumn" period for SAP/Sybase-ers isn't it?
