News Flashes

CA Technologies has announced a major new release of the ERwin data modeling solution. This new release which is the second in less than a year provides a collaborative data modeling environment to manage enterprise data using an intuitive, graphical interface. It helps improve data re-use, optimize system quality, accelerate time-to-benefit and enable appropriate information governance—key objectives for IT organizations serving companies in today's highly competitive and closely regulated markets.

Kapow Software has introduced Kapow Katalyst Application Integration Platform 9.1. The new release is intended to help organizations simplify and manage integration and big data, and support the rise of "Build Your Own App" initiatives, with a flexible and predictable model to meet changing market demands and business requirements.

Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Release 2 was recently introduced with capabilities for deploying and managing business applications in an enterprise private cloud, such as Java platform-as-a-service (PaaS), enhanced business application management, and integrated hardware-software management for Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud. According to Oracle, "engineered-together management" is especially important for a consolidation platform such as Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud, where multiple business applications need to run reliably and securely. In addition, as a result of demand from customers leveraging Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c, a new IOUG Management Special Interest Group (SIG) has been created.

Cloudant, the provider of a globally distributed "data layer as a service," has announced upgrades to its cloud database service that include integrated, full-text indexing and search powered by Apache Lucene. With Search 2.0, developers using Cloudant can improve mobile and web apps through high-performance indexing and analysis of textual documents.

Executives in charge of ERP applications are working hard to keep pace with new functionality and products coming from Oracle and other ERP vendors, but while they seek to upgrade to new solutions, many are feeling intense budgetary pressure. Close to half of the executives in a new survey say they have held off on new upgrades for at least a few years.

Varonis Systems Inc., a data governance software provider, has released DatAdvantage 5.8, offering customers greater flexibility and management in data governance for unstructured and semi-structured data. Varonis DatAdvantage 5.8 introduces internally developed collectors that can run alongside or instead of Varonis probes running Microsoft SQL. These collectors can collect the information without an SQL server, making implementation easier, improving performance, and reducing overhead. "It is a great investment in our architecture, and it gives you more flexibility about where you can use SQL or not use SQL," David Gibson, vice president of strategy at Varonis, tells 5 Minute Briefing.

Think About It

It is an understatement to say we're witnessing an example of Moore's Law — which states the number of transistors on a chip will double approximately every two years — as we seek to manage the explosion of big data. Given the impact this new wealth of information has on hundreds of millions of business transactions, there's an urgent need to look beyond traditional insight-generation tools and techniques. It's critical we develop new tools and skills to extract the insights that organizations seek through predictive analytics.
