Ateras, a provider of legacy migration and modernization solutions, announced a tool that enables mainframe analysts and developers to create customized applications in C# or Java from either COBOL or Natural, without any knowledge of C# or Java required.

Attachmate Corporation has announced a multiplatform "X server" that connects remote Windows, Unix, Linux and Mac desktop users to graphical Unix-based applications. Attachmate's Reflection X Advantage version 2.0 is enhanced with Open Graphics Library (OpenGL) and Secure Shell (SSH) support, and features a new architecture designed to optimize performance for high-latency and low-bandwidth networks.

Bus-Tech, Inc., a supplier of data center connectivity products, has introduced a new library model intended to add mainframe connectivity to distributed systems Virtual Tape Library (VTL) vendors' offerings and provide data centers with a single backup vehicle for both mainframe and distributed system server environments. The Mainframe Data Library (MDL) model 100V is intended to simplify data backup for the enterprise, take advantage of the VTL's deduplication capabilities and reduces the overall cost associated with data protection, the vendor says.
