IBM is expanding its collaboration with Microsoft to help joint clients accelerate the deployment of generative AI—while also delivering a new offering that will provide clients with the expertise and technology they need to innovate their business processes and scale generative AI effectively. IBM Consulting, in collaboration with Microsoft, will focus on helping clients to implement and scale Azure OpenAI Service.
IBM is introducing watsonx Code Assistant for Z, a new generative AI-assisted product that will help enable faster translation of COBOL to Java on IBM Z and enhance developer productivity on the platform. According to IBM, this product will be generally available in Q4 2023, and is being designed to help accelerate COBOL application modernization. Watsonx Code Assistant for Z will preview during TechXchange, IBM's premier technical learning event in Las Vegas, Sept 11-13.
IONOS, a leading digitalization partner for small and midsize businesses, announced it is enabling customers of its Compute Engine cloud platform to deploy vCPU (virtual central processing unit) server instances in their virtual data centers. The vCPU option complements the high-performance dedicated instances previously offered exclusively, and now offered as the Dedicated Core option. Both variants are finely configurable in terms of the number of vCPUs or cores and RAM size. vCPU instances can, however, also be selected in pre-configured T-shirt sizes.
Scala Data Centers, a Latin American firm, is developing a new campus outside Mexico City, Mexico. The DigitalBridge-owned company announced plans to develop SMEXTP01, the company's first data center in the country. Scala's new site is projected to begin operations in Q4 2023 and is already anchored by a "large hyperscale client." The company said it will be investing $80 million in the project.
