Linux may have faded to the back of the headlines, but there's no question it is a ubiquitous part of data centers across the globe. Our friends at Dice, the online IT recruiting site, in conjunction with The Linux Foundation, just reported that demand for Linux is growing fast as companies expand their IT operations. Eight in 10 recruiters now say hiring Linux talent is a priority in 2012, and managers report they're hiring more Linux professionals relative to other skill areas in the next six months. In addition, Dice finds, Linux professionals are hard to find, garnering higher salaries and better bonuses. A full 85% of employers report having difficulty finding qualified Linux professionals to fill these positions, pointing to the need for more skilled Linux talent. This is great news for IT professionals, of course, but also a warning to employers that critical data center skills are now demanding a premium.
