Sealing its acquisition of Sun Microsystems, Oracle Corporation is playing an ever-increasing role in IBM-centric environments as well. In a press conference announcing the formal acquisition of Sun, Oracle executives said they remain committed to the Java language, and intend to expand the range of applications supported by the multi-platform language, while opening up the public process for amending the language. Oracle also intends to expand the scope of Java Enterprise Edition, the leading protocol behind application servers.
