Exit the x86?

A new report from Gartner suggests that container technology and virtualization solutions are reducing demand for x86-based computers – the workhorses of commodity processing for the past 2 decades. With new options for deploying new types of applications and cloud-based services across existing infrastructures – or someone else’s infrastructure, off-site – the rationale for commodity server farms may be diminishing.
