appCD Rebrands as StackGen, Revolutionizing IaC with $12.3M in Funding

appCD, the generative infrastructure from code company, is announcing the results of its latest seed funding round—having raised $12.3 million—as well as the debut of its new identity, StackGen. The rebranding and latest funding round propels StackGen to continue its journey toward transforming infrastructure from code, focusing on empowering developer workflows while helping them adapt to the latest in AI innovations.

According to Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Platform Engineering 2024 report, “the plethora of cloud infrastructure services across multiple cloud providers makes it difficult for platform engineers and developers to manage infrastructure change at the same pace as application code. Therefore, much like software engineers are productive working with higher-level abstractions using object-oriented programming languages with reusable modules, platform engineers seek similar benefits for improving their productivity and simplifying infrastructure delivery.”

StackGen’s value lies in addressing this lack of infrastructure agility, offering the ability to generate context-aware, secure IaC from application code without any direct change to the code itself. Developers are then able to focus their attention on tasks that require their unique skills—such as developing business logic and application architecture—while StackGen automates the generation of infrastructure code.

“Ensuring governance and consistency in deployments is crucial. StackGen provides default standardization, embedding consistency, security, and policy guardrails seamlessly into cloud deployments for enhanced application reliability,” said Arvind Gidwani, CTO, SAP NS2. “StackGen is providing the necessary compliance and cloud automation at scale to help drive digital transformation.”

StackGen’s funding round—which was led by Thomvest Ventures with participation from existing investors, FireBolt Ventures, WestWave Capital, and Secure Octane—will fuel the company's product development, go-to-market strategy, and company growth. The company’s latest rebrand as StackGen reflects its commitment to delivering holistic infrastructure solutions that apply across organizations’ tech stacks, according to the company.

“StackGen represents the next evolution of our commitment to revolutionizing infrastructure from code,” said Sachin Aggarwal, co-founder and CEO of StackGen. “The funding will enable us to meet the growing demand from enterprise customers as we continue to deliver on our vision for the future of infrastructure from code. Our new name encapsulates this vision and mission to provide seamless, full-stack infrastructure solutions that enhance the developer experience and enforce industry standards, while embracing generative AI.”

“StackGen is revolutionizing the DevOps market with its Infrastructure from Code platform, driving 10x productivity gains for DevOps and SecOps,” said Umesh Padval, managing director, Thomvest Ventures. “The strong team, massive market opportunity, along with differentiated and easy to use technology met the criterion of our thesis driven investments.”
