WSO2, the largest independent software provider of open source API management, integration, and identity and access management (IAM) products, is announcing its latest releases of WSO2 API Manager and WSO2 API Platform for Kubernetes, which emphasize the crossroads between AI innovation, Kubernetes, and cyberattack protection.
“As organizations seek a competitive edge through innovative digital experiences, they need to invest equally in state-of-the-art technologies and in fostering the productivity of their software development teams,” said Christopher Davey, WSO2 vice president and general manager, API management. “With new functionality for managing AI services as APIs and extended support for Kubernetes as the preferred platform for digital innovation, WSO2 API Manager and WSO2 APK are continuing to enhance developers’ experiences while delivering a future-proof environment for their evolving needs.”
In adherence to its vision, the release of WSO2 API Manager—a comprehensive, industry-leading platform for full lifecycle API management—reflects a larger need for enhanced productivity for developers producing or consuming APIs, according to WSO2. Executing over 60 trillion transactions per year, WSO2 API Manager features new capabilities for the world of AI APIs.
Now, with the new Egress API Management capability—which is available for both WSO2 API Gateway and WSO2 APK Gateway—enterprises benefit from full lifecycle API management and governance for AI APIs, accompanied by built-in support for leading service providers, such as OpenAI, Mistral AI, and Microsoft Azure OpenAI. According to WSO2, developer teams adopting third-party APIs and large language models (LLMs) can more effectively monitor and control how these APIs and LLMs are being utilized.
Egress API Management delivers the ability to manage internal and external AI services as APIs, offering an enhanced egress (outbound) gateway experience designed specifically for AI services. This includes the management and routing of API requests relating to policy enforcement, ensuring secure and efficient AI model access, according to WSO2.
WSO2’s latest release also delivers the following features:
- Expanded Kubernetes-native support, reflecting WSO2’s continued commitment to supporting growing microservices and APIs running on Kubernetes
- WSO2 API Microgateway, a cloud native, developer-centric, decentralized gateway for microservices that better aligns with the WSO2 API Manager release, ensuring scalability, governance, reliability, and security
- gRPC API support for WSO2 APK Gateway, which delivers enhanced functionality for developers and engineers building microservices architectures with gRPC, including improved integration with Kubernetes environments and greater control over gRPC services
- New traffic filters for HTTP routes that are aligned with Kubernetes Gateway API standards, delivering better flexibility and precision for routing and transforming HTTP traffic
- Improved developer productivity including support for subscription rate limit policies within WSO2 APK, which enables API providers to define and enforce usage quotas and limits for API consumers, and the ability to search for APIs via content from API definition files from directly within the Developer Portal and Publisher Portal
- Enhanced security and access control with support for configuring separate mutual TLS (mTLS) authentication settings for production and sandbox environments within the WSO2 API Manager control plane (which also manages WSO2 APK), as well as personal access token (PAT) support
