Vision Solutions, a high-availability and disaster recovery solutions provider for IBM Power Systems, announced enhancements to EchoStream, the company's AIX real-time disaster recovery solution. Vision Solutions is currently offering a trial program of the software.
"The EchoStream enhancements offer great value and peace of mind for AIX customers seeking an easy-to-use and affordable backup solution," says Henry Martinez, Vision Solutions senior vice president of engineering. "Version 3.5 is far more than a disaster recovery solution-Vision RightTime CDP easily integrates into AIX environments, protects critical applications and allows real-time access to the backup data through Vision TimeView."
Richard Krause, senior product marketing manager for Vision Solutions, also tells 5 Minute Briefing that the solution is designed exclusively for AIX environments. "There is no multi-platform angle with EchoStream," he states. "It only supports AIX, so the sites would need to rely on separate DR solutions for each platform."
Performance and automation enhancements included with the latest release of EchoStream 3.5 include Vision RightTime CDP, which provides for flexible, "Any-Point-In-Time" recovery, as well as Vision TimeView, which enables improved productivity by using the disaster recovery server for R&D, testing, reporting and training or run backups on replicated data.
Additional enhancements include Vision AutoGuard, which provides for automatic notification and self-correction, and enhanced monitoring that provides visual indicators of system health, and Vision IntelliStart, designed for installation and optimized configuration. The product set also includes EchoStream 3.5, protects data through real-time replication, providing rapid data recovery in the event of software corruption, virus attack, deleted files or other causes of data loss. When combined with Vision's EchoCluster for AIX cluster management solution, businesses can reap the benefits of rapid, automated failover to an alternate local or remote server.
EchoStream is intended to support companies employing backup solutions such secondary data centers in other cities, Krause adds. "Most customers employ the EchoStream solution for remote DR," he says.
Vision Solutions is currently offering a free trial program of EchoStream. The limited-time offer can be quickly installed so users may begin immediately. For more information, go here.
