Vishal Sikka: With Fieldglass Acquisition, SAP Expands Leadership in Public Cloud

To meet the growing demand to manage flexible workforces that can be quickly deployed to support changing business and customer need, SAP has acquired Fieldglass, which provides a cloud-based Vendor Management System (VMS) solution. According to SAP, along with the collaborative procurement capabilities of its Ariba (an SAP company) and its SuccessFactors cloud solutions for human resources, the acquisition of Fieldglass will enable SAP to provide a platform for businesses to manage their entire workforce — both temporary and permanent staff — from recruiting to retirement.

Citing industry estimates that contingent labor and statement-of-work services is a $3.3 trillion market on a fast upward trajectory, SAP says that companies are increasingly moving to variable operating models that enable them to scale up and down their infrastructure, talent and expertise to accommodate changes in business requirements. Contingent workforces are expected to grow by nearly 30% over the next 3 years.

“With the acquisition of Fieldglass we are taking an incredible step forward to further expand SAP's leadership in a public cloud offering for the enterprise,” said Dr. Vishal Sikka, member of the Executive Board of SAP AG, Products & Innovation. “With the power of SAP HANA, SAP Fiori and the Ariba Business Network combined, we can quickly extend the value to our joint customers.”

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, with approximately 350 employees, Fieldglass’ cloud-based solution is used in more than 100 countries and 16 languages. According to Staffing Industry Analysts, Fieldglass is the current VMS market leader in total spend and global footprint.
