VMware Ramps Up Cloud Service Portfolio

VMware delivered a series of announcements on new and enhanced capabilities from the VMworld event taking place this week in Las Vegas.

The company introduced new and enhanced VMware Cloud Services that will enable cloud operations, DevOps, and security and compliance teams to better manage cloud costs, operations, security, and compliance across clouds. The advancements to VMware’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) based cloud operations platform included new cloud automation services, VMware Cloud Assembly, VMware Service Broker, and VMware Code Stream; a new cloud configuration security and compliance service, VMware Secure State; and significant enhancements to Wavefront by VMware.

VMware’s cloud automation services are a set of cloud services that leverage the award-winning vRealize Automation on-premises offering. These services make it easy and efficient for developers to build and deploy applications. The cloud automation services consist of VMware Cloud Assembly, VMware Service Broker, and VMware Code Stream.

In addition, VMware announced new innovations to its intelligence-driven digital workspace platform, Workspace ONE, furthering its vision to accelerate how workspace services can be secured, delivered and consumed in the modern workforce. Organizations can now take advantage of solutions that accelerate the adoption of modern management as they fully transition to Windows 10 and embrace Mac, iOS, Android, and Chromebooks. Through updates to the platform, businesses will be able to provide improved employee experiences with a new Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub app and benefit from new integrations in the platform that extend the value of modern management to virtual endpoints.

Workspace ONE Intelligence is a cloud-based service delivering data-driven insights and automation across the digital workspace, now enabling new capabilities to accelerate this transition. Predictive Windows 10 OS patching based on OS and app readiness assessments and CVE vulnerability scores ensures devices are proactively maintained and remediated.

In addition, new industry-first UEM support for 100% Group Policy Object coverage makes it easy for IT to manage GPOs with editable Center for Internet Security (CIS) and Microsoft security policy templates.

In a new collaboration, Dell and VMware will also provide customers with access to “ready to work” solutions through Dell Provisioning for Workspace ONE. Employees will have access to pre-installed Win32 applications on Dell PCs that can be immediately used upon enrollment and instantly recovered if needed.

Now generally available is Workspace ONE AirLift connector to Microsoft System Center Configuration Management (SCCM), allowing customers to speed and de-risk the transition to Windows 10 modern management that spans the entire PC lifecycle.

VMware also announced new capabilities that help organizations to rapidly migrate applications and data centers to an intrinsically secure cloud service that meets enterprise application needs. VMware Cloud on AWS is delivered, sold, and supported by VMware and its partner community and brings VMware’s enterprise-class Software-Defined Data Center software to the AWS Cloud, enabling customers to run production applications across VMware vSphere-based hybrid cloud environments, with optimized access to the breadth and depth of AWS services and robust disaster protection.

Moreover, VMware will reduce the entry price for VMware Cloud on AWS by 50% and offer a smaller three-host minimum SDDC configuration as a starting point for production workloads. For a limited time, VMware will offer the three-Host SDDC environment for the cost of a 2-Host configuration.

Customers will be able to live migrate thousands of VMs with zero downtime and schedule exactly when to cut over to the new cloud environment with VMware NSX Hybrid Connect (previously known as VMware Hybrid Cloud Extension) powered by vMotion and vSphere Replication. VMware is offering a free migration cost assessment with VMware Cost Insight as part of the core service to assist with cloud migration planning.
