Neo Technology, a provider of graph databases and creator of Neo4j, has announced the general availability of Neo4j 2.0 and the launch of its free online training program. According to the company, Neo4j 2.0 is user-friendly and can be used by anyone regardless of experience or technical skill level.
Neo4j 2.0 is the second major release since 2010 when Neo Technology introduced Neo4j 1.0, which focused on performance scalability and robustness. “The difference in why we are choosing to call this 2.0 is because it’s a shifting priority. The focus in the 2.x series is around usability,” explainedEmil EifremCEO, Neo Technology. The 2.x series is focused on simplifying the use of graph databases and making them easily accessible for programmers.
Neo Technology has added three key features in order to simplify use and make it easier for programmers to use Neo4j2.0:
- In order to speed development, Neo4j 2.0 introduces a new schema construct - labels - enabling developers to tell the database more about the data.
- Neo4j 2.0 adds new capability to Cypher, Neo4j’s purpose-built declarative graph query language, making it easier to develop graph applications with less code.
- A new interactive query environment enables rapid prototyping of Cypher queries and visual data discovery.
According to the company, the new version of the database, coupled with the free, interactive online course focused on graph databases, will enable graph technology to move into wider use. “We think that this release of Neo4j 2.0 is going to catapult graph in the mainstream,” Eifrem said.
