Updates from Quest Software Continue to Ease PostgreSQL Migration and Boost Performance

Quest Software, a global leader in systems management, data protection, and security software, is unveiling two updates designed to expedite PostgreSQL adoption. The solutions—a Performance Investigator for PostgreSQL add-on for Foglight and SharePlex—work to make PostgreSQL a reality for enterprises by streamlining migrations and optimizing performance and availability.

Quest’s mission revolves around making PostgreSQL deployment fast, highly performant, and secure. With more and more organizations turning to PostgreSQL as the foundation for big data, AI, and other digital transformation initiatives, Quest’s latest updates continue to serve its core objective, according to the company.

"With our new offerings timed with the release of PostgreSQL 17.0, Quest is committed to empowering organizations to leverage PostgreSQL effectively, maximizing performance and simplifying data migration to unlock the full value of their data," said Bharath Vasudevan, vice president of product management, Quest Software. "Our tools are designed to fill critical gaps, providing enterprises with the advanced capabilities they need to not only survive but thrive in this era of big data, AI, and LLMs."

The new add-on for Foglight—the performance monitoring and diagnostic tool that enhances visibility into PostgreSQL and offers cross-database monitoring—aims to close the “blind spots” associated with deep workload analysis for PostgreSQL. The Performance Investigator for PostgreSQL add-on enables advanced workload analysis by improving broader application performance monitoring (APM) efforts for data-intensive projects. This allows users to locate inefficient queries leading to resource bottlenecks and locking issues, helping enterprises maintain optimal database performance, avoid downtime, and ensure smooth end-user experiences, according to Quest.

The latter half of this announcement addresses the migration challenges associated with PostgreSQL, where data discrepancies and downtime risks impede transformation, according to Quest.

The latest iteration of SharePlex—which DBTA named a trendsetting product for 2025—continues to ease PostgreSQL transitions with new support for data replication and synchronization for PostgreSQL 17.0, Oracle 23ai, MariaDB 11.4.2, Google AlloyDB, and Google AlloyDB Omni. This support unlocks the ability for organizations to migrate data between platforms in real time to ensure both data accuracy and business continuity, according to Quest.

Additionally, SharePlex now offers Compare and Repair features that highlight and resolve differences between data sources during the migration process. These capabilities—which are fully included in the base SharePlex license—empower enterprises to run PostgreSQL and legacy systems in parallel, driving safe testing and iterative migrations.
