Overcoming DevOps obstacles—such as slow, manual, poor-quality test data—is key toward accelerating pipelines. With speed being a central success factor for DevOps pipelines, increasing velocity through data automation is a critical venture.
Aaron Jensen, senior solutions engineer, Perforce Delphix, and Vikram Kulkarni, senior director of solution engineering, Perforce Delphix, joined DBTA’s webinar, Speed Up DevOps Velocity: How to Automate Data for Fast, Quality Releases, to offer their expertise on overcoming common data challenges with actionable strategies that cultivate fast, compliant DevOps pipelines.
“Data is traditionally one of things that holds DevOps back,” said Jensen. Yet, “it’s really become imperative to accelerate and optimize the delivery from your software development teams…it’s all about making sure that we’re as efficient as possible in moving code through our development pipelines.”
To achieve this, Jensen explained, businesses must master enterprise data, eliminating data bottlenecks to unlock DevOps transformation. Speed is key in overcoming these challenges, where automation—from data automation to infrastructure automation and code automation—helps invite rapid DevOps pipelines.
“Data is not moving at the same speed as the rest of the development chain,” added Kulkarni, who pointed out that the most amount of time spent in the DevOps lifecycle is between the design, building, and testing phases. Data is incredibly important during each of these stages, yet its value is often lost because of manual database refreshes, a lack of knowledge on moving data for testing, and more.
Ultimately, manual processes inhibit fast releases, compounded by multiple data sources, multiple handoffs, multiple days per handoff, and so on. A new approach to data for DevOps is necessary, defined by fast, automated, and secure data delivery.
Delphix’s DevOps Data Platform—composed of data virtualization, data compliance, and data automation—delivers this new approach, accelerating app releases with highly secure, ephemeral environments based on cost efficiency, data control, and fast data delivery.
Capable of rapidly creating virtual copies of large databases, securing data through data masking, and delivering a holistic control plane that persists automations across data’s delivery, the Delphix DevOps Data Platform can radically accelerate software delivery without sacrificing compliance or quality.
