Tokutek, providing database performance at scale, has released TokuMX, an upgraded storage engine for MongoDB that increases performance and database compression. TokuMX speeds indexing by 10x or more for greater scalability of large databases. TokuMX features Tokutek’s patented Fractal Tree Indexing to improve how MongoDB organizes and stores information. With its high performance indexing, TokuMX is ideal for applications that must simultaneously query and update large volumes of rapidly arriving data. “We feel that this going to be a very welcome development in the MongoDB world to be able to handle tens of thousands of accesses to the database per second,” John Partridge, CEO of Tokutek, tells 5 Minute Briefing.
According to Tokutek, this latest offering features a 268x query performance increase, a 532x multi-key index insertion, and a 10x or more improvement in insertions and indexing, providing faster performance in live production systems without rewriting or tuning applications. TokuMX achieves up to a 90% reduction in HDD and flash storage requirements without impacting performance. “Our storage engine compresses data between 5x and sometimes even as high as 20x, and that directly translates to cost reduction on how much storage you have to buy. That’s particularly an issue if you’re buying SSD or Flash drives to get those performance advantages,” Partridge explains. TokuMX adds transactions with MVCC and ACID reliability to any MongoDB application, making MongoDB suitable for a wider range of applications.
