Teradata Corporation and SAP have announced a new agreement to provide SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (SAP BW) on the Teradata database. Customers of both companies have asked for accelerated, unified access to detailed enterprise data for improved business visibility, according to the vendors. To address this need, the partnership will deliver an integrated and scalable solution that lowers total cost of ownership and consolidates data on one database platform.
The new agreement will enable customers to benefit from an integrated end-to-end offering, including everything from data warehouse infrastructure and management to business intelligence tools. The consolidation of all data on one database platform will support joint SAP-Teradata customers' efforts to standardize and rationalize their IT investments while lowering their total cost of ownership.
Scott Gnau, chief development officer at Teradata, tells 5 Minute Briefing that "the integration is really below the SAP BW application stack. SAP BW will interact with Teradata as the underlying database and Teradata will then manage the data movement, preparation, and presentation. This integration differs from prior work with SAP, which was more about moving data between the BW store and the Teradata store. The SAP Business Objects stack will continue to run and be optimized for use with Teradata, and one could presume that as SAP Business Objects and BW become more packaged, Teradata will work for both a native BW and a native Business Objects stack. These two technologies, SAP BW and the Teradata database platform, are actually complementary. Teradata will be positioned as an accelerator and integrator for large data volume issues, and BW may be added to accelerate at the application end of the stack."
Teradata is endorsing SAP as a strategic partner for analytics and business intelligence solutions. The partnership agreement also renews and expands Teradata's role as a reseller and as a strategic database platform for the SAP Business Objects portfolio, which provides open, heterogeneous solutions in the areas of business intelligence, information management, governance, risk and compliance, enterprise performance management and all the components of the SAP NetWeaver technology platform. Additionally, SAP and Teradata will look to leverage their joint business intelligence solutions in non-SAP enterprise resource planning accounts.
