Talend, an open source data integration software company, recently announced a significant upgrade to the Talend Integration Suite and to Talend Open Studio. Talend Open Studio is the free, open source ETL software platform that Talend offers under a GPL license. It provides business modeling of the data integration process, graphical development, metadata management, and a wide array of data connectors. Talend Integration Suite is the commercial version of Open Studio that Talend sells as an annual subscription license, and that extends Talend Open Studio with technical support and features to facilitate the work of large teams and enterprise-scale deployments. It is offered as Team, Professional, or Enterprise editions, with the Enterprise edition providing for grid management and optional data quality capabilities.
The new features in Talend Integration Suite 3.2 give business users greater control over the definition of data integration processes, extend integration capabilities to IT operations, and improve the overall impact of data integration throughout the organization. Specifically, the key new features of Talend Integration Suite 3.2 include business rules driven integration, error recovery management, migration and replication management, and log-based change data capture.
"The new business rules-driven capabilities in version 3.2 are a significant feature," Yves de Montcheuil, vice president of market strategy for Talend, tells 5 Minute Briefing. "Without the business rules engine, every data integration change requires a request to IT. Externalizing the rules through this engine give business users the ability to change data routing and transformation logic in accordance with changes in business operations without needing to know the technical architecture of the ETL code."
The error recovery management processes can now create recovery checkpoints so that in case of failure, processes can be resumed from one of the checkpoints. Dynamic instructions can also be provided to IT operations, instructing them how to react to specific error conditions. The migration and replication automation features automatically create migration and/or replication processes based on metadata discovery while supporting heterogeneous environments, thus greatly accelerating migration and replication tasks. The new log-based changed data capture capability enables database changes to immediately be sent to Talend for data integration processes, and is supported for Oracle, DB2/400 (IBM System i) and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
