A new version of the TIBCO Spotfire analytics platform offers a user-friendly approach, enabling organizations to mash up complex data into rich location analytics. The company has also launched Spotfire Desktop to provide individual users with sophisticated analytic visualization capabilities.
According to the company, Spotfire 6.5 builds upon TIBCO Spotfire’s strength in location analytics, with capabilities requested by customers in the oil & gas industry.
Companies in the oil & gas industry often have large investments with Esri, said Stephen Farr, product marketing manager for TIBCO Spotfire. In the past few releases of the product, Spotfire has included mapping functionality and is able to import shapefiles from an Esri server, and utilize those in map-based analysis. However, said Farr, there have been customer requests to be able to keep those shapefiles and access them directly from Esri. In addition to making it easier for users, the new capability provides users with more dynamic access when they are in Spotfire.
Building on the company’s approach of providing advanced analytics all knowledge workers, TIBCO is introducing Spotfire Desktop for individual users. The desktop version addresses a gap the company saw in the analytics market, according to Farr. “Products for individual uses tend to be cut down in some way and we wanted a standalone desktop product that an R analyst a data scientist could use. Sometimes, software companies equate functionality with the size of the customer but it's our view that even small customers want to do sophisticated things.”
Spotfire 6.5 and Spotfire Desktop will be launched at Transform Houston and will be generally available in early May from TIBCO.
