Syncsort, a global leader in data protection software, has joined the VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program. The program helps technology vendors integrate their products with VMware virtualization software and deliver joint solutions to mutual customers.
As customers seek to not only virtualize their smaller applications and test development servers, but also move critical applications into production on VMware Infrastructure, the ability to maintain application performance and meet the same demanding RPOs and RTOs that production apps require becomes a concern, according to Harvey Tessler, senior vice president of marketing and product management at Syncsort.
"What we bring to the table is the speed of back up and the speed of recovery. Typically, our backups are just a few minutes for a particular server no matter how big the data is-and recovery is also in minutes," Tessler tells 5 Minute Briefing. "And as we do backups, we are not impacting the application in any way."
Syncsort's Backup Express (BEX) has been architected to integrate seamlessly with VMware, reducing network traffic, storage requirements and backup windows by more than 90%, and to accomplish this with little or no impact on the performance of applications, according to the vendor. BEX Instant Virtualization utilizes point-in-time server snapshots to provide immediate access to data, applications and operating system, permitting business to continue nearly uninterrupted.
Moreover, notes Tessler, "We do it all with a single pane of glass as we like to say because we are supporting several applications on a virtual environment where we can provide these advanced technologies-Exchange, SQL, Oracle and SharePoint. And we also support several different operating systems-Solaris, Windows and Linux. Customers don't need different products; they don't have to run several different backups on the same server."
