SolarWinds, a provider of IT management software, has acquired Confio Software, which provides database performance management software. The Boulder, Colorado-based software company was purchased for $103 million in cash. Confio's flagship product, Confio Ignite, improves software development and service delivery for systems based on Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2, and SAP Sybase databases, running on VMware virtual servers as well as physical servers.
The acquisition of Confio furthers a strategic initiative which began in 2011 to extend SolarWinds’ product portfolio to address the specific needs of today’s systems administrators. As big data, virtual and cloud-based services, and agile development processes put databases at the core of business performance, teams that develop, deploy and operate database systems must respond with faster service at a lower cost. Considering the critical role that databases play in the service that IT organizations must deliver, SolarWinds believes that an opportunity exists to deliver an expanded IT infrastructure management portfolio integrated with heterogeneous database performance management.
