SilverPeak Systems, a provider of data acceleration tools, announced a new family of downloadable software products intended to help storage professionals accelerate their offsite data replication workloads. The new Silver Peak VRX-2, VRX-4 and VRX-8 software products are part of SilverPeak’s Velocity solution. The software is designed to help overcome WAN bandwidth, distance and quality challenges and enable storage professionals to meet recovery point objectives (RPOs) by replicating more data, over longer distances, and in less time.
“Most storage professionals understand the importance of offsite data replication, but until now, have been handcuffed by the network when attempting to extend the distance of their replication apps,” says Everett Dolgner, director of replication product management for SilverPeak. “SilverPeak VRX software puts the power and control of data acceleration in the hands of the storage administrator. In less than 20 minutes, a storage manager can easily meet their RPOs, lower disaster recovery costs and extend the distance between replication sites.”
The new VRX products are based on SilverPeak’s Virtual Acceleration Open Architecture (VXOA), which uses real-time optimization techniques to maximize replication performance over existing WAN infrastructures. The software deploys into many replication environments, and runs on all standard hypervisors, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer and KVM.
The VRX line also supports asynchronous IP-based replication solutions from Dell, EMC, HDS, NetApp and others. The new VRX software comes in three models: VRX-2, with replication capacity of up to 60 GB/hr; VRX-4, with replication capacity of up to 300 GB/hr, and VRX-8, with replication capacity of up to 1.5 TB/hr.
