Segment, which provides a customer data hub, has introduced a new platform that will give companies access to new types of cloud services data.
Segment enables organizations to collect customer data with one API and send it to a variety of tools for analytics, marketing, and data warehousing.
“We have about 7,000 companies sending data through Segment today through their websites and mobile apps and the key is, that’s really just a sliver of the customers’ interactions,” said Peter Reinhardt, co-founder and CEO of Segment. “They really want to use all that data to deliver an amazing customer experience. But because they are only collecting a sliver right now they miss out on all these other customer interactions. We’re releasing the ability to, in a few clicks, basically unlock all that data.”
The new platform, dubbed “Sources,” allows users to now export, sync, and store data from CRM, marketing, and payments platforms and move it into Postgres or Amazon Redshift for analysis.
Platforms available on Sources include Salesforce, Stripe, Zendesk, SendGrid, Mailchimp, Mandrill, Intercom, Hubspot, and Twilio, with more coming over the next several weeks. Segment Sources moves customer data from cloud services into a data warehouse, removing engineering complexity and providing a more complete customer dataset.
According to the vendor, this allows engineers to reclaim hours spent manually connecting these services and tracking and translating their customer data. Analysts and engineering teams will benefit the most from this platform, according to Reinhardt. “It lets the engineers really focus and double down on building a great product while the analyst has all the data they need much faster and more reliably.”
