SOA Software Beefs Up Governance Offerings

SOA Software, an SOA and cloud services governance provider, announced a repository solution that enables enterprises to understand what services and software assets exist, where they are located and how each fits into a company's business and technical landscape. Repository Manager Version 6.2 is designed to provide a context for understanding and assessing existing software assets, and automates the path to SOA and cloud.

Repository Manager helps address issues that arise in mainframe shops that are increasingly being called upon to support SOA deployments, Brent Carlson, senior vice president of technology for SOA Software, tells 5 Minute Briefing. "While certainly the patterns, tools and development techniques used by mainframe shops to develop services vary when compared to a distributed-centric environment, mainframe shops have the same issues with service governance as any other enterprise IT organization," Carlson explains. Issues frequently seen at large data center sites include "defining services to support business capabilities broader than any one specific project," and "exposing those services to the development community so they can be easily searched for and understood." In addition, IT shops are tasked with "tracking service usage to better enable impact analysis as the organization's SOA matures."

Repository Manager is designed to oversee the creation, integration, management and promotion of enterprise assets and services throughout the development lifecycle. The solution integrates with major application development environments, major run-time registries including IBM WSRR, HP SOA Systinet and UDDI. Repository Manager also works with SOA Software's Policy Manager solution, which helps provide a single point of control for deploying services and other software assets.

Repository Manager version 6.2 extends the federation framework with support for more development platforms, adds SOA impact analysis, adds an extensible validation framework, additional operational governance integration options, and greater flexibility in defining specialized searches for assets and services. The solution "addresses service production and consumption issues via its highly configurable repository and governance infrastructure," says Carlson.
