RightScale, Jaspersoft, Talend and Vertica have announced an integrated solutions stack intended to enable customers to increase agility and lower costs by combining the power of the cloud, a high-performance analytical database, and BI and data integration software. RightScale is a cloud computing management provider and offers a fully automated cloud management platform that enables customers to design, deploy, and manage business-critical applications on the cloud. Vertica provides the analytical database which is based on column-structure architecture. The BI software is provided by open source BI vendor Jaspersoft, and the data integration software by open source vendor Talend. This BI stack is an example of the power of collaboration among vendors to deliver integrated solutions, and by focusing their efforts on delivering BI on the cloud, customers now have tools to help them move quickly with BI projects.
To obtain the service, Yves de Montcheuil, vice president of marketing for Talend tells 5 Minute Briefing that "the easiest process is to first sign up for a free 30-day trial. This can be done on RightScale's site and will immediately enable access to the cloud Images of Talend, Jaspersoft, and Vertica-images that have been optimized and pre-parametered to work together. Thanks to these images, the deployment is done instantaneously (in minutes)." While the free evaluation runs, it will then be necessary to engage either with the four vendors, or with one of them who will facilitate the process with the others, explains de Montcheuil. "If a user wishes to go beyond the trial period, they will need to contract with RightScale, Vertica, Jaspersoft, and Talend. The 30-day period provides ample time to do this."
Also, with respect to Talend's contribution to the BI stack, de Montcheuil says,"Talend's solutions were already cloud-ready, however what our engineers have done is prepare an image, ready to be deployed on the cloud, and pre-configured to connect to Vertica and Jaspersoft. What we have also done, and this is not technical, is to offer a pricing model that is optimized for cloud deployment - a pay-as-you-go model. Also, it's not because you do BI in the cloud that your source data is in the cloud. Very often, users will need to gather source data from inside their firewall, from SaaS applications, from cloud databases, or from applications. Given this wide array of source data, the breadth of connectivity that comes natively with the Talend platform brings a great advantage to the users of the cloud BI platform."
