Revelation Software has announced Universal Driver NUL 5.0 for use with OpenInsight 9.4. Version 5.0 will be included with the purchase of OpenInsight 10 licenses.
The features and upgrades that are included in NUL 5.0 are 64-bit support, a secure communications option, an authenticated clients option, connection retry, and is VSS-friendly. VSS, or shadow copy, is a technology included in Microsoft Windows that creates backup copies or "snapshots" that allow the user to go back to previous settings if something were to become corrupted. The Universal Driver NUL 5.0 leverages 64-bit technology and can only be installed on 64-bit versions of Windows operating systems.
Secure communications will allow the communication channel between the server and its clients can be SSL encrypted, preventing unauthorized interception of sensitive information. The authenticated clients option will allow only authorized client software to connect to the UD server over a secure SSL channel. Connection retry allows the client to resume normal operations after a communication link between a client and server is temporary lost and then restored. The Universal Driver NUL 5.0 is a volume snapshot service which allows for it to be backed up with minimal disruption to normal operations.
“The release of the Universal Driver 5.0 was originally planned to operate with OpenInsight 10 and above,” said Robert Catalano, director of sales at Revelation Software, “Our VARs and customers expressed such a keen interest in VSS support that we engineered the product to work with OpenInsight 9.4.”
