Quantum’s Scalar i7 RAPTOR Tape Solution Delivers Advanced Density, Cost Efficiency, and More

Quantum Corporation, the provider of technology, software, and services that today's organizations need to make video and other unstructured data smarter, is announcing the availability of Scalar i7 RAPTOR, the latest version of Quantum’s efficient, dense, low-cost solution for AI data lakes. Engineered for hyperscale customers, managed service providers (MSPs), and large enterprises, Scalar i7 RAPTOR solidifies its position as the densest, most scalable tape solution available, according to Quantum.

Scalar i7 RAPTOR is designed specifically for the AI era, reflecting the need to retain more and more data for AI, analytics, and business insights. Delivering enhanced storage density—which is up to 200% better than traditional scale-up libraries and up to 82% better than newer scale-out, high-density libraries—enterprises benefit from significant cost efficiency, according to the vendor.

Another key feature of Scalar i7 RAPTOR is enhanced serviceability, where all components are customer serviceable and replaceable in less than five minutes. Additionally, each component is hardened to minimize damage during replacement. This approach to streamlined serviceability enables enterprises to limit downtime and improve customer service level agreements (SLAs).

Sustainability and security are also core focuses for Scalar i7 RAPTOR, offering the highest power supply efficiency rating and advanced, patented ransomware recovery features. Both green and secure, Scalar i7 RAPTOR is the most power-efficient tape library per PB of storage available while simultaneously ensuring data integrity and air gap protection that transcends the protection capabilities of other libraries, according to Quantum.

“As unstructured data growth continues to grow exponentially, large enterprises need a low-cost, highly secure, highly scalable archival storage system that delivers more storage density than any other solution on the market,” said Bruno Hald, vice president of secondary storage at Quantum. “We continue to deliver the most innovation in tape technology that help[s] solve customers’ needs for massive storage that fits their budget, reduces their footprint, and scales easily as their needs grow.”

“IDC expects the surging demand for AI workloads will lead to a significant increase in data center capacity, energy consumption, and carbon emissions, with AI data center capacity projected to have a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 40.5% through 2027,” said Greg Macatee, research manager, infrastructure systems, platforms, and technologies group at IDC. “With this increase of energy consumption, enterprises require new and innovative infrastructure to improve power and data center efficiency.”

Scalar i7 RAPTOR also makes strides in the space of integration, seamlessly integrating with other Quantum solutions—including StorNext file system, ActiveScale scalable S3 object storage, and all major tape management software. These integrations further improve cost efficiency, durability, data accessibility, and data preservation. Scalar i7 RAPTOR is also equipped to support AI workflows that store files or objects.
