Pythian Earns Oracle PartnerNetwork Specializations in Database, RAC, Performance Tuning, and Linux

5 Minute Briefing: Oracle had the opportunity to meet and speak with Pythian chief technology officer Alexander Gorbachev during Oracle OpenWorld about the company's achievement of four specializations under the OPN (Oracle PartnerNetwork) Specialized Program. Pythian, already a Platinum member of the OPN, has met a series of demanding technical and business requirements to earn the specializations in Oracle Database 11g, Real Application Clusters (RAC), Database Performance Tuning, and Oracle Linux.

The specialized status serves as an indicator to both Oracle customers and to the Oracle team that Pythian is "a preferred go-to partner that they can engage" when facing complex problems. According to Gorbachev, Pythian has worked with 1,200 customers globally since its inception in 1997, with 140 of these considered active customers. Pythian's customers tend to be characterized as having "critical data with high intensity data processing and reasonably large data sets," commented Gorbachev. Virtually all of the major vertical industries are represented in Pythian's customer base, particularly among "any customers who are managing the data where the data is both volatile and critical to the business operation," according to Gorbachev. The company has offices in Toronto, Ottawa, the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and Sydney.

The majority, although not all, of Pythian's work occurs in the area of managing customer databases wherever they reside, and the company's flexible subscription model enables its customers to deploy Pythian's pooled hours onto evolving high-priority projects when necessary, allowing customer control and offering increased flexibility. Well-known within the Oracle community of users and at Oracle itself, Pythian is expanding rapidly at nearly 50% this year, as it provides service to the Oracle community under the "Plan, Deploy, Manage" approach to solutions providing.
