Pure Storage, the IT pioneer that delivers the world’s most advanced data storage technologies and services, is launching a series of new features for the Pure Storage platform that empower enterprises to keep up with the pace of innovation—particularly in the realm of architecture, as dictated by the advancements in AI. These new innovations—which include Real-time Enterprise File, a virtual machine (VM) assessment, and more—continue Pure Storage’s momentum in empowering enterprises to adapt to the constantly evolving demands for data architectures.
With Pure Storage’s intuitive, consistent storage platform and subscription-based services, the company works to deliver agility and risk reduction to organizations for a wide range of use cases, according to the company. Adhering to this mission, Pure Storage is debuting Real-Time Enterprise File, a file innovation purpose-built to support fast-paced, data-intensive applications that render traditional, rigid file storage obsolete.
Between its lack of flexibility, multi-layer complexity, and increased risk of cyberthreats, legacy file storage is “the natural enemy of agility,” according to Pure Storage.
“[Traditional file storage is] a little bit like the game Tetris,” said Shawn Hansen, GM/VP, core platform business unit, Pure Storage. “When you buy, it's immediately outdated, and there's multiple layers of complexity that have built up over the last 20 years…You add the different layers over time because you can't imagine what the future looks like.”
Initiating a paradigm shift in file storage, Pure Storage’s Real-time Enterprise File innovation eliminates pre-configured silos that prevent the true adaptability necessary for modern applications. With global storage pools, enterprises can maximize all their storage resources without having to plan or create storage reservations or allocations for each array. Pure Fusion additionally offers fleet-wide operations automation, including workload placement and array rebalancing to further drive efficiency.
Real-time Enterprise File also offers the following advantages:
- Zero-move tiering, enabling IT to deliver the required performance level of an application without having to physically move data between tiers
- True non-disruption, where non-disruptive upgrades (NDU) offer in-place upgrades for both hardware and software without the need for data migration or data loss
- Expanded support for cost-sensitive workloads through FlashBlade//S100, an AI-ready platform with GPUDirect support that delivers progressive pricing across all price points and markets
- Cloud-like operations that eases IT management workloads by allowing data to simply be placed, assigned an SLA so that storage can expand as well as auto adjust to data growth, all while services such as QoS and multiprotocol configuration is automatically handled
- Natural language for files with Pure Storage’s AI Copilot for File, enabling a range of personas from IT generalists to DevOps teams and seasoned storage practitioners to address file-related issues and eliminate bottlenecks
- The power of Storage as a Service brought to file through Evergreen//One, as well as the industry’s highest number of concurrent SLAs
“Pure is known historically as a market leader and disruptor in the block storage business. And now, for the first time, we are entering the enterprise file business…[and] we're bringing all the value of the Pure modern platform to the file space,” said Hansen. “[And we’re doing it] the ‘Pure’ way, which is simplicity using as-a-Service and allowing customers to dynamically scale up and down with a modern, fresh architecture.”
Pure Storage’s Real-time Enterprise File announcement is accompanied by two other innovations—VM Assessment and Universal Credits.
With VM Assessment, IT teams are empowered to better modernize their virtualization operations for critical workloads. With performance monitoring, enhanced scenario planning, and rightsizing recommendations via Pure1, VM Assessment offers deep insights into organizations' VM environments, including utilization and potential subscription impacts. VM Assessment is available for free for all customers with a Pure1 subscription.
VM Assessment “helps IT decision makers get clarity into how their VMs are utilized and understand their potential savings. This lets them proactively manage and mitigate the risks they have as they think about licensing and identifies where they can place their VMs for the best price performance,” explained Hansen.
Further emphasizing flexibility, Universal Credits enables enterprises to purchase a pool of credits that can be used across various services without locking them into specific subscriptions. Paired with predictable billing, Universal Credits additionally offers volume discounts to increase cost simplicity and efficiency.
