Progress OpenEdge 11.7 Delivers New Capabilities to Strengthen Mission-Critical Business Applications

Progress announced the latest release of Progress OpenEdge, an application development platform that helps simplify the delivery of mission-critical business applications. The 11.7 release includes capabilities to increase the ability to always be on, fortify applications through enhanced security, and keep accurate data flowing through the organization.

Enterprise applications are becoming increasingly complex, are deployed on a variety of platforms and must meet stringent requirements for security, administration and maintenance.

With this release, said Colleen Smith, vice president and general manager, Progress OpenEdge,

Progress is providing customers who depend on the OpenEdge platform to develop and deploy the applications that drive their businesses with additional assurances of uptime, security, and accurate analytics.

Progress OpenEdge platform reduces uninterrupted access to systems and information with new Replication Target Synchronization, which provides a three-pronged failover approach that eliminates a single point of failure and supports continuous operations, and the Online Index Activation, which enhances the flexibility of the database by easing the addition of new indexes to the schema at their convenience, with zero downtime, and without disrupting the application.

Through OpenEdge Change Data Capture (CDC), businesses can also track and save only the changes to data—regardless of where they occur, helping to enable accurate, efficient ETL synchronization with other data sources, repositories and warehouses, supporting the increasing demand for ease in reporting and insightful, descriptive embedded analytics.

In addition, as part of the latest release, Progress is introducing the availability of the OpenEdge Authentication Gateway, which enhances the security of the OpenEdge application environment by redirecting all access requests to a secure token service (STS) that confirms user legitimacy and protects from malicious data manipulation. The new OpenEdge Authentication Gateway leverages the modern, sophisticated Progress Application Server built on security industry standards such as Tomcat Spring Security and OpenSSL.
