Oracle Releases Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 with Improved Performance and Support for Virtualization

Oracle has announced the general availability of Oracle Database Appliance X3-2, featuring up to twice the performance and supporting over four times the storage as compared to the original Oracle Database Appliance. Oracle Database Appliance is a complete package of software, server, storage and networking designed for simplicity and high availability, helping businesses of all sizes reduce risk and save time and money managing their data and applications.

The Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 features built-in one-button deployment, patching and database provisioning, simplified VM management and automatic phone home capabilities. Using a Storage Expansion Shelf, users can instantly grow their data volumes with no administration required. An optional Virtualized Platform, built on Oracle VM, enables ISVs to package and ship a complete solution-in-a-box. Virtualization support enables users to deploy complete, highly available solution appliances to remote office branches. The Oracle Database Appliance Virtual Platform reduces software licensing requirements by leveraging Oracle VM’s hard partitioning capabilities, and extends pay-as-you-grow software licensing to all Oracle software.

Oracle upgraded the Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 hardware with 512 GB of memory, 18 TB SAS disk storage and 800 GB flash for enhanced OLTP performance and data warehousing. This provides up to 2X faster performance, over 4X storage capacity, almost 3X flash, and over 2.5X memory when compared with the previous version. Integrating servers, storage, networks and databases for high availability, the Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 enables customers to reduce power and cooling with a smaller IT footprint, as well as decrease total cost of ownership.
