patchVantage, an Oracle management software supplier, has added patching functionality for MySQL, and Microsoft’s SQL Server on Linux. According patchVantage, since Oracle’s RDBMS, MySQL, Microsoft’s SQL Server together represent a high percentage of all databases in use today, it is important that systems can be managed from a single platform in order to manage database security patching efficiently.
With the addition of security patching for SQL Server and MySQL patchVantage now cover a large percentage of the databases in use across the world today, said David McNish, founder and technical architect.
Many organizations use a mix of these products to perform a variety of operational functions, but all organizations have the same needs—to stay protected against cyber threats, compliant in an ever-changing regulatory environment, and up-to-date with new features and bug fixes.
Users can access the software via the cloud (SaaS) or use on-premise. In addition, patchVantage has recently created an app so administrators can access and manage their systems from anywhere.
SQL Server was originally developed by Microsoft exclusively for Windows, but is now available on both Linux and Mac OS X. MySQL runs on several popular operating systems, including Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
patchVantage also recently announced the addition of data masking functionality to its suite of Oracle Database and ERP management tools, which includes backup, cloning, patching, penetration testing, and password management. Data masking enables sensitive data can be hidden or obscured to protect against insider threat and to allow development and testing by third parties, and is a key technology for companies that need to comply with GDPR.
