OpenText Unveils New Solution for Adopting Enterprise-Compliant Open Source Components

OpenText, The Information Company, is debuting OpenText Debricked Open Source Select, a solution aimed toward helping developers select the right open source components that align with company intake policies before a single line of code is written.

Prompted by a 2024 Forrester Consulting study commissioned by OpenText—which found that 66% of organizations struggle to find open source code that meets their organizations’ security policies—Open Source Select features an innovative policy overlay that grants greater visibility into what open source components they can use.

"A major source of friction between developers, compliance teams, and security teams is developer selection of open source libraries. With our latest innovation, we are making the discovery and intake process much easier for all," said Muhi Majzoub, chief product officer and EVP at OpenText. "With Open Source Select, we are filling an important gap in the DevOps lifecycle. In doing so we are increasing developer and policy review teams' productivity and improving security by eliminating workarounds."

Open Source Select eradicates the guesswork of selecting open source components through the automated management of open source discovery and intake, based entirely on the unique policies of an enterprise. This is done before the open source library is even selected and integrated into development code branches, allowing developers to pre-empt potential issues instead of remediating them downstream, according to the company.

Open Source Select is easy to deploy with a simple browser extension install, which is compatible with the free version as well as with any existing software composition analysis tool in use. Developers presently using the free version can download Open Source Select here
