Application and server management solutions provider Idera has released version 5.0 of Idera Server Backup, designed to be an affordable, enterprise-class software solution for physical and virtual server environments. According to Idera, the solution is offered at a price point that is 80% lower on average than competing solutions, and provides a fast and proven solution for backup and recovery for mixed server environments, including physical, virtual, Windows, and Linux.
Idera Server Backup contains three key elements in the 5.0 release. These include “a completely new pricing model, a highly scalable backup platform, and the ability to support multiple operating systems,” Rick Pleczko, CEO of Idera, tells 5 Minute Briefing. Idera’s latest solution supports backups for both Windows and Linux, as well as servers in virtual environments including VMware, HyperV, and Xen, and provides intelligent support for MS Exchange, MySQL and MS SQL Server.
With Idera Server Backup 5.0, enterprises are able to backup all of their servers, not just “mission-critical” ones. It can be downloaded, configured and installed in less than 30 minutes, and requires no additional modules, professional services, or training. “The idea that they can do all of their management, even file restores, directly from a web-based interface is very appealing to customers,” David Wartell, vice president of server backup at Idera, explains. The software’s continuous data protection employs block-level backup technology that identifies which portions of a hard disk need to be read for an incremental backup, reducing the load on production servers and cutting backup time from hours to minutes.
