Idera, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and provider of management and administration solutions for Microsoft SQL Server, has introduced two new products, both of which are available as public betas through October 30.
The first new product is SQLsafe 6.0, which provides backup and recovery solutions for SQL server databases. Major upgrades in SQL safe 6.0 include smaller and faster backups with new, patent-pending IntelliCompress2 technology, network fault tolerance for enabling backup procedures to resume where they left-off after a network is back online, and AES-256 encryption with less than 0.5% performance degradation while backing up.
Regarding SQLsafe 6.0, Heather Sullivan, director of SQL Server products at Idera tells 5 Minute Briefing that "SQLsafe 6.0 achieves compression and speed results that are truly remarkable. By monitoring resource usage and dynamically adjusting compression levels, the software is able to produce the smallest backup file in the shortest period of time."
The other new product is called the SQL virtual database, a solution that lets database administrators attach SQL Server backup files and query them just like they were "live" SQL Server databases. This patent-pending technology enables instant-access to critical data in a backup file without wasting the time or storage necessary to restore the database. To extract the data that is needed, administrators simply attach the backup file and use any native SQL Server or third-party tool to query and extract the data in minutes.
"SQL virtual database is the first product of its kind. It allows users to interact with SQL Server backup files just as they would with a real database, thereby eliminating the time and storage requirements of performing a full restore," Sullivan says
