IDERA, a provider of database productivity tools, has announced the latest release of its flagship SQL Compliance Manager product. Version 5.6 features new reports and log files that increase compliance visibility and awareness with a focus on GDPR, as well as improved usability and functionality of configuration settings.
Separately, the company also announced the latest release of SQL Secure. Version 3.3 extends support for Microsoft SQL Server databases to include those deployed in Amazon RDS and EC2 cloud environments, as well as managed instances of Azure SQL Database.
SQL Compliance Manager
SQL Compliance Manager is a database auditing solution that monitors and tracks changes to SQL Server objects and data, and sends alerts on suspicious activity. The product also generates audit reports to demonstrate compliance with regulatory and data security requirements such as GDPR, SOX, PCI, HIPAA, CIS, NERC, DISA/STIG, and FERPA.
The new release of SQL Compliance Manager, version 5.6, is focused on improving the usability and functionality of settings and configurations in the product to improve the speed of new installations and updated implementations.
Highlights include:
- A Regulatory Guideline Wizard - with the ability to set up auditing and reporting based on GDPR standards so DBAs can demonstrate compliance.
- Sensitive Columns Update – offering the ability to capture sensitive column access activity so that auditors can see what data has been accessed without viewing the restricted information.
- Intuitive Configuration Settings – to see what settings have already been set on the parent configuration and know exactly what information is captured for all levels.
“DBAs today are overwhelmed with oversight requirements, from maintaining the health and performance of databases to securing and tracking who has access to them, and for what reasons,” said Kim Brushaber, senior product manager at IDERA. “SQL Compliance Manager takes the headache out of regulatory compliance efforts by making it easier than ever to filter information, tailor event notifications, and pinpoint who did what in an environment -- especially as more and more organizations come under the scrutiny of GDPR.”
SQL Secure.
In addition, the latest release of SQL Secure, Version 3.3, extends support for Microsoft SQL Server databases to include those deployed in Amazon RDS and EC2 cloud environments, as well as managed instances of Azure SQL Database.
SQL Secure is an auditing and security tool for SQL Server that helps DBAs manage permissions across the Microsoft SQL database landscape. Database professionals can identify vulnerabilities with Microsoft SQL database configurations and access, establish security policies and baselines, and alert if there are any changes—enabling them to identify who has access to what and each user’s effective rights across all Microsoft SQL database objects.
The new release of SQL Secure 3.3 is aimed at helping DBAs control database permissions across hybrid and cloud-based environments. Additionally, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been added to the regulatory guideline policy templates that also include HIPAA, Payment Card Industry (PCI), and Center for Internet Security (CIS), allowing DBAs to perform security checks and generate reports against this far-reaching regulation.
“DBAs already have a heavy load when it comes to ensuring that their SQL Server environment complies with industry regulations such as HIPAA, PCI, GDPR, and others. Running databases in the cloud only adds to this complexity, increasing the need for greater visibility and control across a diverse mix of hosted environments,” said Kim Brushaber, senior product manager at IDERA. “SQL Secure 3.3 helps DBAs automate SQL Server auditing and reporting in the cloud, ensuring that permissions are limited to the right levels for users and groups, and that minimum access is enforced.”
