A new multi-processor server configuration intended to support high availability environments is now shipping from Fujitsu. The x86 FUJITSU Server PRIMEQUEST 2000 series is comprised of five models, based on the Intel Xeon Processor E7 v2 family.
According to Fujitsu, the PRIMEQUEST 2000 series offers a multi-OS platform that runs Microsoft Windows Server and Linux, as well as Fujitsu's own Fujitsu Software OSIV/XSP mainframe OS and FUJITSU Software ASP office computer OS. The system, which supports up to 120 cores and 12 TB of memory, is 2.5 times as fast as its predecessor, Fujitsu said.
The PRIMEQUEST 2000 series is designed to deliver “mainframe-class reliability and availability for superior business continuity,” the vendor said. Features include redundancy of all major hardware components, and high-availability features, such as its built-in auxiliary system board that enables autonomous system restart in the event of a failure.
The new series also supports partitioning into multiple independent systems, each running different operating systems. It can run the industry-standard operation systems Microsoft Windows Server and Linux, as well as Fujitsu's own software OSIV/XSP mainframe OS and FUJITSU Software ASP office computer OS, all at the same time.
