The proliferation of data sources, types, and stores is increasing the challenge of combining data into meaningful, actionable information.
As a result, the need for faster and smarter data integration capabilities is growing. In a recent survey, nearly half of DBTA subscribers indicated that real-time insights are critical to their data strategies. At the same time, to deliver actual value, people need information they can trust, so balancing governance is essential nowadays, especially with ongoing regulatory requirements.
To highlight the key technologies and best practices for overcoming data integration and governance challenges today, DBTA held a roundtable webinar featuring Hims Pawar, chief client privacy advisor, principal engineer, Delphix; FX Nicolas, vice president of product success, Semarchy; and Michael Distler, senior director, product marketing, Qlik.
According to the headlines, everyone is moving to the cloud and real-time data, Distler said. However, a Qlik and TDWI survey, “Global Data Integration Trends in 2021: The Voice of the Data Integration Community,” reported that many still haven’t embraced modern technology. The top 3 difficult sources respondents noted are: mainframe, enterprise applications, and legacy systems.
Data integration is an obstacle to greater BI success, Distler said. What could help is accelerating data cataloging to automate data integration pipelines and empower users. Adding new data sources takes less time when you have a data catalog, Distler explained.
Nicolas recommended the Semarchy xDM Intelligent Data Hub Platform. The Intelligent Data Hub brings together information that lives across applications such that it can be governed, mastered and managed in a centrally understood, nondisruptive way.
A DevOps Data platform can also overcome data integration challenges, Pawar said. It offers platform and compliance software for apps across multi-cloud environments, is licensed by TBs of app data ingested, green tech that pays for itself in savings, and automates data at speed for CI/CD.
