Embarcadero Technologies has introduced a new version of its database management and development platform, DB Power Studio XE3, which offers enhancements to further improve the performance and availability of databases.
DB Power Studio supports popular DBMSs, including Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase ASE, and DB2. The new release offers increased coverage across database platforms by delivering multiple feature enhancements for each product in the suite, including DB Artisan, Rapid SQL, and DB Optimizer, as well as direct access to Embarcadero's support team.
"DB Power Studio is unique because it is a single product with a single user interface supporting all the platforms," Scott Walz, senior director of product management at Embarcardero, tells 5 Minute Briefing.
With this release, for the first time, DBArtisan will no longer require a database client, and instead, it will be able to directly connect to the database. In addition, DBArtisan and Rapid SQL also introduce support for Sybase IQ. Sybase IQ support is initially available as a technical preview, says Walz. In future releases, Sybase IQ support will be built out and at that time, there will be a licensed version for Sybase IQ, he adds.
Building on the importance of Visual SQL Tuning tools, the latest version of DB Optimizer introduces query tuning reports, to improve collaboration between DBAs and developers and help to cut down on the time spent tuning, says Walz. With XE3, DB Optimizer is also introducing key profiling updates, such as enhanced filtering for profiling sessions, and improved repository management when capturing profiles into a database.
