Edge Manager v3 by IOTech Accommodates Today’s Rapid Edge Deployments at Scale

IOTech, the edge software company, is debuting Edge Manager v3, the end-to-end, flexible, scalable solution for the management of hardware nodes and their edge applications. Designed to simplify and automate edge systems management at scale, the latest update introduces new multi-tenancy, workflow automation, and integrated tooling capabilities.

Inspired by their customers’ rapid deployment of edge systems at scale, Edge Manager v3 aims to meet the evolving needs of edge system environments while reducing overall operational costs.

“Our customers are rolling out their edge systems at rapidly increasing scale and edge management solutions such as Edge Manager need to evolve accordingly,” said Andrew Foster, product director of IOTech. “The new capabilities we’ve introduced in Edge Manager v3 will help organizations deal with the challenges of managing expanding deployments while maximizing the value of processing industrial data at the edge.”

With “light touch” provisioning and complete lifecycle management for edge nodes, their applications, and any connected operational technology (OT) devices, Edge Manager offers a centralized edge controller for both on-prem and in the cloud. The launch of v3.0 delivers a series of new functions, including:

  • Multi-tenancy: Enterprises with services across multiple projects, business units, and customers are now able to add additional organizations to their Edge Manager instance, helping to centralize edge management activities and associated data for groups of users.
  • Workflow automation: With definable actions and rules for edge nodes, v3.0 empowers users to automate critical edge management tasks—including running an application at a certain time of day—to reduce manual intervention and increase productivity.
  • Integrated tooling: IOTech’s Edge Central UI is now a fully integrated component of Edge Manager's integrated toolchain, enabling users to manage and monitor their Edge Central or EdgeX deployments, as well as their connected OT devices and sensors, from a single Edge Manager instance.
  • Application updates: Edge Manager v3 now allows an application to be updated to a newer version without removing the current version—including the removal of data stored in one of its volumes—allowing users to easily rollback to the previous version of an application if needed.
