Dell Software Amplifies Commitment with Major Upgrades to Spotlight Solution Portfolio

At the PASS Summit, the conference for SQL Server professionals, Dell Software released new management tools that underscore its commitment to providing customers with affordable and easy to use SQL Server database management and monitoring solutions. Key among the new releases is Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise 10.0. Additional products include the new Spotlight Healthcheck and Spotlight Freemium Edition, as well as the latest version of Toad for SQL Server.

Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise 10.0, a SQL Server database monitoring tool, provides customers with flexibility to suit their usage needs. This upgrade includes features such as increased flexibility for alarms and notifications, the ability to monitor index fragmentation, and integration for LiteSpeed customers, which enables users to receive alarms and notifications related to their SQL backups directly within Spotlight. The new release also supports all three major mobile platforms.

“Spotlight empowers DBAs to get a deep analysis and feedback on an ongoing basis so they can run a more efficient, better performing, and more stable SQL Server environment,” said John Whittaker, director of product marketing, Dell Software’s Information Management Group, in an interview.

Two new free tools focused on the SQL Server market have also been introduced. Dell Spotlight Healthcheck is a technology that allows users to do a free health check and determine the status of their entire SQL Server infrastructure from a performance and system perspective. Spotlight Freemium Edition allows them to use the Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise with no charge.

This free downloadable tool integrates as a plug-in to the SQL Server Management Studio.

The final product, Toad for SQL Server 6, is a SQL Server tuning and SQL Server administration tool designed for database developers and DBAs. This new release includes improvements to both the Multi Schema Compare functionality and SSMS plug-in, as well as enhanced change requests and issues resolution.

In addition, SpotlightEssentials.com, a rebranded version of ProjectLucy.com, is one resource for all things Spotlight where users can access both the Spotlight Healthcheck and Spotlight Freemium Edition. “We take the input from our users and essentially build in the capabilities that they desire,” Whittaker said.
