Data virtualization vendor Composite Software and Armanta, Inc., a provider of an integrated BI and analytics platform, have formed a partnership to deliver end-to-end enterprise risk management solutions to the financial services industry. The Armanta/Composite Risk Management Solution is intended to help risk managers further improve risk management analysis by enabling access to up-to-the-minute information from disparate systems.
Enabling business users to view and analyze data in real time, Armanta’s Integrated Business Intelligence Platform is an integrated technology suite that includes a rich user interface for reporting, analytics and visualization, a grid-based massively parallel in-memory engine, and a data virtualization and integration layer. Armanta’s relationship with Composite will extend its data integration capabilities to provide risk managers with dynamic access to all data. The Composite Data Virtualization Platform overcomes data complexity and disparate silos to provide complete, high quality and actionable information.
The recent financial crisis points to a need for better enterprise level risk management, Robert Eve, executive vice president of marketing at Composite Software, tells 5 Minute Briefing. However, he notes, the challenge with traditional risk management is that it does not include enough factors for the analysis or may not be capable of handling the volume of information that should be considered for analysis. “If you can’t access all the information, or the information is at a volume level that is too great to analyze, then you are really not able to manage risk, and do what-if analysis to avoid problems.”
Composite’s data virtualization suite combined with Armanta’s enterprise risk management platform is aimed at improving analysis for risk managers by providing an end-to-end view of data that enables proactive analysis with complete data management, complex calculation, scenario analysis, and final results publication capabilities, as well as “what-if” scenario analysis and sandbox features to allow hypotheses to be tested in a safe environment.
“The faster you get to the data integration, the faster you are starting to build the models,” says Eve. “We add data sources to extend the risk factors that are available and we accelerate the data model development.” Composite can access applications like SAP and E-Business Suite, big data sources such as Hadoop, and provides high performance data access for MPP appliances such as IBM Netezza, notes Eve. Alternatively, he says, “You could do a Java API-type of relationship or a basic-level JDBC to relational databases," but the advantage of using Composite is that "when we connect to things it is more than just a connection; we understand the capabilities of the database itself and then we can optimize that optimizer.” The result, Eve says, is that “Optimized queries really enable data models to run with the latest data.”
