Commvault’s CIS-Hardened Images Offer Innately Secure Cloud Deployment

Commvault, a leading provider of cyber resilience and data protection solutions for the hybrid cloud, is announcing new CIS-hardened images that simplify how Commvault Cloud is deployed from major cloud marketplaces. Designed with pre-configured, CIS-recommended settings and controls, the CIS-hardened images afford IT teams peace of mind for cloud deployment.

CIS-hardened images—or software files innately designed to adhere to the Center for Internet Security (CIS) Benchmarks—help reduce various risks associated with configuration, such as over-permissive network policies. According to SentinelOne, 23% of cloud infrastructure attacks are due to configuration errors, which create ample opportunities for threat actors.

Commvault’s new CIS-hardened images reduce that risk, offering pre-configured deployment that aligns with stringent security benchmarks out-of-the-box. This effort echoes Commvault’s larger focus on cybersecurity, joining its existing security certifications, which include FedRAMP High Authorized, ISO27001:2013, SOC 2, Type II, and FIPS 140-2, and more.

“Organizations demand solutions that are not only secure and compliant but also straightforward to deploy,” said Chris Montgomery, CTO, security, Americas at Commvault. “With CIS-hardened images, we can eliminate the guesswork, providing IT teams with a secure, pre-configured foundation to accelerate their cyber resilience strategies while meeting industry standards.”

The CIS-hardened images enable enterprises to quickly and confidently deploy Commvault Cloud, according to the company, offering the following advantages:

  • Pre-built compliance checks within a secure, hardened environment, assuring customers that their control plane has been installed and configured with industry-recognized best practices
  • Enhanced cybersecurity by addressing common misconfiguration risks, helping reduce vulnerabilities and deliver peace of mind against threat actors
  • Streamlined compliance mapping for security frameworks like NIST CSF, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and ISO 27001
  • Broad marketplace availability which enables customers to deploy Commvault Cloud from the AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or VMware marketplaces, easing and accelerating installation

“As a security-first organization, having confidence in how our solutions are deployed is critical,” said Marek Duranik, storage and data protection associate director at Merck. “Commvault’s CIS-hardened images give us the assurance that we’re starting from a strong security baseline, allowing our teams to focus on protecting and recovering critical data.”
