Code Metal, the company powering AI-based development workflows for the edge, is announcing it has secured $13 million in seed funding, as well as $3.45 million in a pre-seed round. Led by Shield Capital and J2 Ventures—with participation from Fulcrum Venture Group, Underdog Labs, and more—this capital will propel Code Metal’s efforts to build both its modular and verifiable agentic workflows that radically enhance the speed of development and its team of experts.
Code Metal’s central mission is to reduce the time it takes to deliver algorithmic innovations to edge and IoT hardware, offering an AI-powered automated development platform for edge computing. Translating high-level code into deployable, production-ready software, Code Metal streamlines the deployment of applications to the edge without requiring extensive expertise.
“Deploying software to the edge typically requires a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in high-level coding, algorithms, QA, and low-level optimizations. Optimizing new innovations to fit within limited power and computational budgets can take months to years and significant resources,” explained Peter Morales, CEO of Code Metal. “Code Metal’s agentic workflows simplify this process by combining LLM agents with the rigor of formal methods. This ensures verifiably correct, product-level code that can be applied agnostic of algorithms and target edge hardware, significantly easing edge deployments.”
Part of Code Metal’s approach to app deployment at the edge involves the proven expertise of its team, having shipped products ranging from AI algorithms on the F-35 to Amazon Alexa, according to Morales.
“We excel at reducing the time required to deploy new features to edge hardware platforms. Whether you're moving code to an FPGA or optimizing processing for coprocessors from Tegra to AMD, Code Metal can help you swiftly transition prototypes and features from desktops and the cloud to the edge in a reproducible and automated way,” Morales continued.
The recent funding will serve to scale up Code Metal’s team as well as expand its support for organizations in a variety of industries. Code Metal will continue to act as a crucial enabler of IoT—including medical devices, autonomous systems, and robotics—aiming to make deploying code to the edge as simple as setting up a Python environment, according to Morales.
“Code Metal is accelerating development at the edge faster than any of its peers at a time where edge deployments are scaling rapidly,” said Michael Brown, partner at Shield Capital. “Driven by the founders that brought AI systems to the edge in Amazon Alexa, F-35 fighter jets, and Microsoft HoloLens, Code Metal has both the expertise and customer buy-in to tackle this massive market.”
Code Metal’s success is already evident through both its revenue generation and its established strategic partnerships with major edge deployment leaders, including X-Press Feeders and L3Harris.
“Code Metal has been transformational in designing, building, and delivering intelligence into our logistics network,” said Chris Hartnoll, CEO of HICO Investment Group, an investment arm of X-Press Feeders. “It’s revolutionized how we think about the supply chain."
