Cloudera, the only true hybrid platform for data, analytics, and AI, is unveiling two major announcements: The company is releasing Cloudera Copilot for Cloudera AI, a new AI assistant for data practitioners, and has entered a definitive agreement with Octopai to acquire its data lineage and catalog platform. Each announcement reflects Cloudera’s commitment towards delivering optimal, data-driven outcomes for data scientists, engineers, and developers alike.
Cloudera Copilot—embedded directly within Cloudera—works to increase the productivity and collaboration of data practitioners by enabling them to more effectively and securely innovate and write high-quality, consistent code. Designed specifically for data practitioners in mind, Cloudera Copilot offers AI-driven coding assistance that deeply integrates within data workflows while emphasizing compliance and governance.
“Data practitioners are the lifeblood of an enterprise, and giving them AI-powered tools specifically designed to enhance their job performance offers benefits to a business as a whole,” said Sanjeev Mohan, an industry analyst. “AI assistants like Cloudera Copilot expand the scope of employees who can access AI tools so an entire organization can capitalize fully on the benefits of AI. This unlocks greater visibility, efficiency, and productivity.”
Cloudera Copilot offers the following capabilities:
- Automated code generation, data transformation, and troubleshooting, which frees up data practitioners’ time, allowing them to focus more on innovation and important tasks
- Consistent coding assistance that cultivates a collaborative experience across teams regardless of language, library, or workflow
- On-demand guidance featuring optimal solutions and insights, helping users maintain high-quality code, reduce errors, and improve project outcomes
Accompanying the launch of Cloudera Copilot is the acquisition of Octopai’s automated solutions for data lineage, data discovery, data catalog, mapping, and impact analysis.
Octopai’s innovation in robust metadata management and multi-dimensional data lineage will integrate into Cloudera’s modern data architecture strategy. This will provide Cloudera customers with a holistic view of their data solutions, enabling them to more adequately power their AI, predictive analytics, and other decision-making tools with trusted data, according to the company.
"Cloudera and Octopai represent a perfect symbiosis by bringing together centralized data and metadata management,” said Yael Ben Arie, CEO of Octopai. “By combining Octopai's metadata capabilities with Cloudera's comprehensive data, analytics, and AI platform, we're addressing the critical challenge of understanding and governing data across multi-cloud and on-premises environments.”
This acquisition will uniquely improve:
- Data discoverability through rapid, relevant data surfacing within complex and distributed data sets across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments, paired with clear visibility into data origin, reliability, history, and transformations
- Data quality by extensive data tracking from source to current state, enabling rapid resolution of data quality issues
- Data governance through automatic mapping and cataloging of data across systems, centralized within a single knowledge hub that offers detailed insights into data flows, transformations, and processes
- Migration assistance with partner-driven lineage and the Octomize AI GenAI agent, allowing data teams to reduce risk and errors while ensuring migrated data stays accurate, consistent, and useable within its new environment
“When using data to make business-critical decisions, enterprises can’t afford to have blind spots or inaccuracies, and they certainly shouldn’t let identifying trusted data slow down progress,” said Charles Sansbury, CEO of Cloudera. “Our customers need to auto-discover data across multiple repositories, show deep lineage of assets both within and outside the Cloudera estate, and leverage a robust data catalog to identify data assets that can be consumed. The acquisition of Octopai’s platform enhances Cloudera’s data, analytics, and AI platform, enabling customers to have greater visibility of their data regardless of their data management provider.”
