Clerity Solutions, a provider of mainframe modernization solutions, introduced new software designed to help organizations consume and reuse multiple data sources from multiple platforms without having to write new application code. The software, Clerity Transforming Enterprise Applications (TEA), part of the company's IT modernization suite, supports a mix of server environments, including IBM mainframes, Linux, UNIX, and Microsoft Windows-based systems, by exposing business logic to mobile computing, service-oriented architecture (SOA), and other IT initiatives.
Organizations have accumulated great quantities of data over many disparate data sources over the years with the result that there are decades of development and applications that are out there and "pockets of important and valuable data all over the place," Glenn Dent, CTO of Clerity's Microsoft Practice, tells 5 Minute Briefing.
It is too expensive to rewrite applications and build whole new applications around existing systems that have been in place for a long time and are vital to enterprises, he notes. "They are just not going to rip and replace those applications that quickly. They need to be able to use that data that they already own and that is vital to the organization."
The TEA software is seeing more demand for the new software in industries such as healthcare, financial services, insurance, and retail banking, adds Wendy Williams, director of marketing, Clerity. But the need is cross-industry and horizontal, emphasizes Dent, noting for example that there are "thousands and thousands" of midrange systems that are still in place today that "don't have any new tooling that they can use."
Clerity TEA software provides an integrated plug-in that extends Microsoft Visual Studio and an intuitive drag-and-drop environment to capture legacy and Windows-based application data sources. TEA technology converts these screens and data into reusable, .NET managed-code objects that can be deployed to any Microsoft .NET project type, including Windows Forms, Web Forms, Web Services, Windows Presentation Foundation, and Windows Communication Foundation applications. Clerity TEA objects can also be used in the creation of customized workflows leveraging Microsoft BizTalk Server to build composite applications for the Windows Azure cloud.
