CA has announced a new release of its ERwin Data Modeling Suite, with updated data modeling capabilities, integrated data profiling, and new reporting features. The CA ERwin Data Modeling Suite is an integrated tool for a complete model-based approach to the analysis, design, and construction of high quality database and data warehouse applications. The capabilities and pricing of the new release allow data architects at midmarket-to-global 2000 companies to reduce time, cost, and complexity in providing timely, accurate information to the business.
The two main new products in the suite release are the CA ERwin Data Modeler v7.3 and the CA ERwin Data Profiler v3.2. The two products need to be licensed separately, but are fully interoperable with import and export functionality between them. In addition to the licensable edition of the new Data Modeler product, there is also a free, community edition that offers an annual license for functionality designed for students and first-time modelers.
"This is CA's 20th year in the market with ERwin and we are still going strong and innovating," Donna Burbank, senior principal product marketing manager for CA, tells 5 Minute Briefing. "There are many new capabilities in this latest release that reflect new trends in the industry and also fit with the expanding role of the DBA. The three primary categories into which the new product features can be grouped are the areas of integration, customization, and reporting."
Key features in the new ERwin Data Modeler v7.3 product include metadata exchange that enables the sharing of critical business and technical information with a wide range of data management tools, including Oracle BI, IBM Cognos, and SAP NetWeaver MDM; extended database support for Teradata, SQL Server 2008 and DB2 z/OS v9; support for application development with Microsoft Visual Team System Edition 2008 to help ensure the development and deployment of critical SQL Server applications; and support for Oracle E-Business Suite.
The new release also offers customization of Data Definition Language (DDL) automated code generation to fit the unique technical requirements of individual companies; integrated Business Objects Crystal Reports for powerful graphical reporting capabilities; and ODBC reporting to allow connectivity to other popular reporting tools and interfaces.
The new ERwin Data Profiler v3.2 product is OEMed from Exeros and rebranded under the ERwin name. The data profiler helps analysts understand data in legacy systems from across the enterprise, greatly simplifying the task of ensuring accurate and structured data for efficient use in applications, data marts, data warehouses, and MDM hubs.
