Backblaze, Inc., the cloud storage innovator providing a modern alternative to traditional cloud providers, is unveiling the latest release of its B2 Cloud Storage platform, featuring a variety of updates that improve enterprise security, streamline workflows and data migration, and more.
The Winter Release of the B2 Cloud Storage platform focuses on enabling enterprises to secure and manage their data workflows across their storage environments, according to Backblaze.
“Our high-performance, S3-compatible, Backblaze B2 cloud object storage is used by more than 100,000 businesses and organizations, large and small, for their application, media, backup, AI, and other storage use cases,” said David Ngo, chief product officer, Backblaze. “We see this release helping us better serve them and the next 100,000.”
In regard to enterprise security, the B2 Cloud Storage platform now offers:
- Scalable application keys that allow organizations to generate and refresh up to 10,000 unique data access keys per minute, marking a 150x increase. This allows them to securely move an increased number of bits and bytes between endpoint networks and Backblaze B2 storage buckets—which is particularly useful for video surveillance, mobile applications, and IoT use cases.
- Scoped application keys designed to afford system administrators the ability to produce application keys for specific prefixes within storage buckets, offering more nuanced control access to specific groups of objects.
- More robust B2 command line interface (CLI) by transitioning from disk-stored credentials to secure local caching, enhancing credential management with additional features such as autocomplete suggestions and shortcuts.
- Real-time monitoring of external internet conditions for more effective management of stable service delivery.
The B2 Cloud Storage platform’s latest iteration emphasizes the importance of streamlining data workflows and data migration, offering a myriad of new capabilities.
With event notifications, enterprises benefit from automatically triggered actions and updates based on data changes in Backblaze. This helps accelerate the rate at which businesses make informed decisions, enhancing workflow efficiency. Additionally, custom upload timestamps allow organizations to retain original file timestamp data from other storage providers during migration, addressing the need for particular compliance regulations.
The Powered by Backblaze/Partner API now enables enterprises to provision their customers with trial storage accounts automatically, which is ideal for independent software vendors (ISV), according to Backblaze. Finally, Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) offers support for more IP addresses without public IPv4 address costs and the need for Network Address Translation (NAT).
