BMC, a provider of IT solutions for the digital enterprise, has announced enhancements to its BMC Discovery solution to improve its interaction with other systems while also increasing security and efficiency. Using a RESTful API, BMC Discovery v11.1 now provides an open platform enabling other systems to take advantage of discovery data and drive discovery configuration. The new version also leverages integration with the CyberArk Privileged Account Security Solution to manage and secure privileged access to scanned environments.
According to BMC, organizations seeking more agility and efficiency are also struggling with an increasing amount of systems, applications, devices, and data in their networks. The BMC Discovery v11.1 solution allows third-party systems to trigger model updates or endpoint scans in reaction to infrastructure and software changes. As an example, the company says, BMC Discovery now includes a configurable event-based integration to poll discovered VMware vCenters for events to represent changes to VMs as they occur.
BMC's integration with the CyberArk Privileged Account Security Solution in BMC Discovery v11.1 securely leverages credentials from the CyberArk solution to perform authenticated scans. Credential rotation is automatically optimized and completed based on policy. This reduces deployment time while it mitigates threats, reduces risk, and enhances compliance.
The integration of privileged account security capabilities into BMC Discovery is why the C3 Alliance was created earlier this year, said Adam Bosnian, executive vice president, global business development at CyberArk, noting that with automated credential management delivered by CyberArk, BMC is making discovery and dependence mapping more efficient while helping organizations meet their service account security standards.
Also available today are other enhancements to BMC Discovery v11.1, including single sign-on through BMC's Remedy suite of digital service management solutions and the BMC Discovery solution's "Start Anywhere" application mapping, which now includes new capabilities to streamline visualizations and simplify business application modeling.
